What’s happening to Origin Internet prices?

Recently there have been changes to our prices that reflect an increase to the wholesale costs Origin pays to provide your internet access, alongside increased operational costs. We break down what this means for you and your internet bill. 

Why are internet prices changing?

The wholesale prices that Origin pays, to get access to the NBN and Opticomm networks for our customers, are increasing. We’re also facing increased operational costs. We’ve decided to adjust our pricing in response to those changes.   

Our new plans will come into effect from 2 July 2024 for new customers — and existing customers who are relocating addresses or upgrading to a Fibre connection. Existing customers can expect to be notified in June if there are any changes to their monthly plan costs, with changes taking effect in July. Your connection itself won’t change, and you won’t need to do anything. You can still expect great value internet plans and the same great Origin customer service.    

Why do wholesale prices change?

In October 2023, the ACCC accepted variations to NBN’s Special Access Undertaking (SAU), changing the rules that govern how Australia’s largest broadband network will operate – and setting a pricing benchmark for both the NBN and other industry network operators, like Opticomm. This is likely to influence wholesale prices on an annual basis.

The SAU reflects the NBN’s commitment to growing broadband infrastructure nationally, making faster speeds available to more Australians.  In a time where more of us rely on the internet for work, study and entertainment, it’s important to ensure high-speed, and unlimited, internet plans are affordable and accessible for everyone

Can I change my internet plan?

Yes! You can review, or change, your internet plan at any time, simply log in via My Account or the Origin App. Updated pricing will be visible on 1 July for existing customers.
