What’s the right speed for streaming?

If you stream sport, tv shows or download movies chances are you’re using a whole lot of data. Netflix recommends having a connection speed of at least 5 Mbps to stream their movies and TV shows in HD and 25 Mbps for 4K Ultra HD. While these are the minimum required speeds, it’s recommended to get a plan with much higher speeds to accommodate multiple devices at once. If everyone in the house is streaming, gaming and everything in between, you’re going to need more Mbps to keep everyone connected at the same time.

Managing multiple devices in your home

When you’re using multiple devices to stream on the same network, this can cause overcrowding as each device is competing to connect to the same router. This will cause your video or movie to be low quality, or they’ll constantly buffer while streaming. That’s why it’s important to have adequate bandwidth and internet speeds for your household.

Choosing which plan suits your needs will depend heavily on how many people will be using the internet in your home. For example, our Experience nbn™ 50 plan is great for families and households with 2 or more people streaming movies, music and gaming at the same time. However, if you’ve got more people in your household a plan that offers higher Mbps speeds may be more suitable for you.

Are you eligible for a $0 fibre upgrade?

Say hello to faster speeds and more capacity at no cost to you! The nbn™ is rolling out a program to help connect more Aussie homes to fibre technology. In a nutshell, this means replacing your existing technology with faster fibre. If you have a current eligible connection type with either Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), and you’re on a higher speed plan, you’ll have the chance to upgrade to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) for your home internet.

Offer available to eligible FTTC and FTTN customers on higher speed plans in eligible areas only. T&Cs apply.
