Then start switching your appliances off at the wall when they&#8217;re not in use.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.industry.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Department of Industry, Innovation and Science<\/a>, standby power consumption costs the average household almost <a href=\"https:\/\/carbontrack.com.au\/blog\/standby-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">$100 per year<\/a>. While the actual day-to-day cost is minimal, it sure adds up over time. You could buy another appliance with that money!<\/p>\n<p>Some of the culprits are surprising, with printers, routers and smart speakers topping the list of electricity vampires.
