If you’ve ever received a bill\u00a0from us and noticed you\u00a0have\u00a0an estimated read<\/a>, it\u2019s\u00a0likely\u00a0because a meter reader\u00a0wasn\u2019t able to read your meter manually. Not to worry, you can submit a self-meter read<\/a> to us in just a few simple steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estimated reads<\/a>\u00a0can be pretty close, but aren’t 100% accurate.\u00a0The good news is, you can\u00a0do a self-meter read<\/a> in 4 easy steps,\u00a0to\u00a0ensure\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0only\u00a0billed\u00a0for the energy you\u2019ve\u00a0used.\u00a0Your meter<\/a> is important because\u00a0it collects\u00a0data that\u00a0lets us know how much energy you\u2019ve used, and in turn, your bills are based on this data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do estimated meter reads happen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are two types of meters<\/a>: smart (also referred to as digital) and basic. If you\u2019ve got a basic meter\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0chance we may have to bill you based on an estimated meter read<\/a> from time to time. Estimated readings can happen for a number of reasons, from the local distributor<\/a> (who reads your meter) being unable to get safe access, due to pets or gates, right through to things like floods, bushfires and other natural disasters<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While estimated readings<\/a> can be\u00a0pretty close \u2014 they’re often based on data for the same period the year prior \u2014 they\u2019re not 100% accurate.\u00a0To get around this, you can do a meter read yourself<\/a> and submit it to us. This will ensure you’re only paying for the energy that you’ve actually used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data you send through to us\u00a0also\u00a0allows\u00a0you to\u00a0view your\u00a0actual\u00a0usage in\u00a0My Account<\/a>\u00a0(online or in the app<\/a>)\u00a0and gives you a\u00a0more accurate\u00a0understanding of your energy usage patterns<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
