Charmaine\nBretherton left a career in finance to start work at Eraring Power Station 14\nyears ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Maintenance Coordinator, her first job each day is to take part in \u2018Toolbox\u2019 talks, discussing safety and arranging maintenance jobs around the plant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI facilitate and coordinate the contractors on site, taking care of everything to do with facilities management for the asset, from fencing and cleaning, to waste management and recycling, land management, canteen staff, pest control and security.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Charmaine said the best aspect of her job is variety \u2013 she\nnever knows what each day will bring. \u201cIt keeps things interesting,\u201d she said.\n\u201cThere can be some challenges, but when you have a good team to work with,\nthings get done, and that\u2019s satisfying.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m often out on site, ensuring the work is being carried\nout correctly and safely,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have a really great crew of\ncontractors and we all work well together. They\u2019re all very safety-focused and\nalways looking at new ways to do things more efficiently.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of Charmaine\u2019s most important roles is keeping on top of\nthe heavy-duty cleaning work around the power station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA spill down the sides of conveyor belts can have a knock-on effect,\u201d she said. \u201cIf we don\u2019t clean up spills they can stop belts from running, which means we can\u2019t get fuel into the power station to make electricity.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo me, good energy is safe energy. It\u2019s not just about producing megawatts. It\u2019s also about making sure everyone stays safe and gets to go home to their families,\u201d said Charmaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
