The ultimate moving checklist

The ultimate moving checklist

Moving house is a full on job, it’s easy to lose track of what you need to organise. Our moving checklist is here to help you avoid any moving nightmares, so you can spend less time stressing and more time settling into your new place.

1. Make space for your upcoming move

2. Get Packing

One of the best tips for moving home is to have a solid packing plan:

These creative moving hacks might even help you save on packing materials

3. Moving house accounts

If you’re an existing Origin customer you can disconnect your old address online by using My Account. If you’re not an Origin customer, you’ll need to contact your current provider to disconnect.

Moving home means you’ll need to get power connected at your new address.

You can move with us in three easy steps:

1. Head to our Compare Plans page, find the one that’s right for you and sign up online in minutes.

2. Let Origin know your new address and your best contact details.

3. Choose the date you want to be connected. If possible make it at least three business days before you plan to move.

Don’t forget to update your details with other important services like Netflix, Foxtel and your internet provider. Before you move, it’s best to make a list of all of your current services, and tick them off as you go.

4. Redirect your post

Save time and use the online service offered by Australia Post to create an account and have your mail redirected to your new address. You can choose to have your redirection for 3, 6 or 12 months.

Mobile phone accounts, online subscriptions and banking details can all be changed online. Government departments such as Medicare and the electoral commission can also be changed online – a full list can be found here.

You’ll need to check with your doctors, vets, childcare and/or schools as to whether they have an online update service.

5. Organise removalists

6. Be weather prepared

Everyone keeps their fingers crossed for a sunny moving day, but unexpected weather can happen in any season.

7. Arrange your groceries

At the end of a long day of moving, the last thing you’ll want to do is go food shopping. By planning ahead and booking a grocery delivery online with a provider like Coles or Woolworths, you’ll be able to settle straight in.

8. Consider kids and pets

Children and pets have an uncanny ability to pick up on all the pre-move activity. It helps to get them involved early on and organise some help when it comes to your moving day.
